About This Program
The Eightfold Path is at the heart of Buddhist teachings and practices. The path teaches a step-by-step approach for cultivating the wisdom, compassion, clarity, and peace required to uproot and overcome the deep underlying cause of discontentment and realize true happiness in life.
A THREE-PART PROGRAM
"Walking the Path" is a three-part, in-depth exploration into the eightfold path. Traditionally, the Eightfold Path is grouped into three parts, each focusing on a different aspect of learning and practice; Wisdom, Integrity, and Mental Development. Accordingly, the "Walking the Path" program is offered as three different parts, exploring each division of the Path.
- PART ONE: DEEPENING WISDOM
This three-class series investigates the part of the eightfold path that deepens our wisdom. Wisdom allows us to see life more clearly and respond to circumstances with greater skillfulness and wholesomeness.
The curriculum explores the path factors of Wise View and Wise Intention. Topics include karma, impermanence, self/non-self, the Four Noble Truths, letting go, kindness, compassion, liberation, and more.
- PART TWO: STRENGTHENING INTEGRITY (SILA)
Sila means; to live in a way that does not cause harm to oneself and others. This three-class series investigates the part of the Eightfold Path that connects us with our inner values and strengthens our integrity. When our thoughts, speech, and actions are in harmony with our inner values, they support well-being within ourselves and others.
The curriculum explores the path factors of Wise Speech, Wise Action, and Wise Lifestyle. Topics include ways of cultivating beneficial mindstates and transforming mindstates that cause harm to self and others.
- PART THREE: DEVELOPING THE MIND
This three-class series investigates the part of the eightfold path that relates to the development of a healthy and liberated mind through the cultivation of mindfulness, concentration, and skillful effort.
The curriculum explores the path factors of Wise Effort, Wise Mindfulness, and Wise Concentration. Topics include ways to cultivate a healthy effort, balanced energy, the four foundations of mindfulness, and calm and stable heart-mind.
NOTE: Each part can be taken separately or together as a complete course.
